The Reason...
Daryl "Sammy" Sampaga was born with CMT, a crippling muscle and nerve disease that targeted his legs.
Because of CMT, he was a patient of Shriners Children's Hawaii where they offered him medical, physical and emotional care. They taught him how to understand and live with the disease.
At 19, he was told that he needed reconstructive surgery done to his feet. Without the surgery, he would lose the use of his legs and be totally dependent on a wheelchair. He proceeded with the surgery. It was the most painful experience he has ever felt. The entire process was long and difficult and it took him almost a year to recover but through it all, the doctor’s, nurse’s and staff at Shriners were there. That comforted him.
Because of Shriners help, it sparked an idea in "Sammy’s" head, he wanted to give back to Shriners what they had given him…support, encouragement, strength and hope. With the help of a dear friend, Wendell Lewis, owner of Paradise Automotive Kolors and their passion for anything on wheels, they came up with an idea to put on a car show fundraiser where its proceeds would be donated to Shriners Hawaii. For the past 5 years, they have hosted a bunch of shows on a smaller scale. In 2023, they decided to go big, which they did…hence, the creation of the BIG ISLAND HOTTEST CAR, BIKE & TRUCK SHOW. It was a huge success. Now, being its second year, 2024 will be even bigger, better and blazing.
Come and see us on the 26th & 27th. Come meet "Sammy" and Wendell and the rest of the crew. It'll be tons of fun for the entire family.
